  • Twinning: Formation and classification of twins, interpretation of the diffraction diagrams of twins, group-subgroup relationships and their relation to the twin law, phase transitions and twin formation, structure refinement of twinned crystals using the programs SHELXL and JANA2006 (calculation of examples)
  • Modulated structures: Introduction to modulated structures and the superspace, symmetry in superspaccem modulation functions, interpretation of the diffraction diagrams of modulated structures, structure refinement in higher dimensional space using the program Jana2006 (calculation of examples)

Goals:

Understanding of the reasons for twinning and modulated structures, identification of twins and modulated structures on the basis of the diffraction diagram, capability to practically treat twins and modulated structures in structure refinement.
