Introduction to physical phenomena of bulk crystals like

  • dielectric permittivity
  • bi-refringence and crystal optics
  • magnetic susceptibily

  • piezooptic effect etc.

Goals:

Understanding of the basics of crystal- and mineral physics. Macroscopic (tensorial) vs. microscopic (atomistic) description.

Prerequisites:

Basic understanding of physics; mathematical knowledge of tensor formalism
